Cherry lime slushy
Iced beverages are a summertime staple in Texas, a tradition that goes back many years. Before at-home refrigeration was widespread, people would shop at neighborhood ice houses to purchase the ice needed to preserve food and chill drinks.
For years, icehouses sold only frozen water. In 1927, however, an ice house in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas began also offering eggs, cartons of milk, and other pantry staples alongside its blocks of ice. Perhaps the owner saw a future where ice would be available at home, and he knew he'd need to evolve.
